      Hello everyone,

First, thanks again to Barton for another edition of the text.

Second, in assembling my Fall ’24 TM syllabus, I went ahead and answered the question that I posed here a year ago. Is there a way to access the principal cases as individual files? Yes. I’ve now gone ahead and created an inventory of cases that appear in the text, cutting each case out and reformatting it as an MS Word file and its PDF equivalent. The case-less text has likewise been sliced and diced into small packages that align with each day’s assignment. Along the way, I did a little light editing of the text so that the result does not sound weird in the absence of the principal cases.

Students have access to the complete text and can access the material that was if they prefer to. I’m trying the case-at-a-time approach partly because I want to put the students to a little work as they assemble their own sense of what’s going on and partly because I’ve run my Copyright Law course this way for several years, and I like it.

The resulting syllabus, with links to everything (including my explaining my motivation, and my usual long array of online secondary materials illustrating and extending the law and the cases) is here. (Not all of the excerpts are online yet, but they will be by the end of the day tomorrow.) The CC license passes through, of course, so download and re-use anything you like.

      Mike

Thank you for sharing. Very well done. I prefer to have the students read the entire cases rather than excerpts as well. My only suggestion would be to have your “links” open in new tabs so that you don’t have to navigate back to the syllabus every time. Again, very impressive and inspiring work.

Thank you for the suggestion. A quick tweak to the website, and I have followed your advice.
